How to Get Cx File Explorer on Quest 2 (No Pc & Phone)

VR has changed the way we live with its lifelike interactions and realistic simulations. That’s what has people drawn to use it to fulfill their gaming desires. And when it comes to gaming, they want modding — and for modding, they need a solid file manager for Quest 2 or 3 to manage and store files. One of the best and most lightweight options is Cx File Explorer.

You can use it to manage and access files, including modding games and sideloading apps. Below, I broke down how you can install it on your Quest 2 or 3 with and without a PC. Let’s get into it.

How to Install Cx File Explorer For Quest 2 or 3 With No PC

Have no laptop or PC? the first turn is yours! Follow the steps below to download Cx File Explorer on your Meta Quest without a computer.

First, you’re going to go to your Quest’s store, and then you’re going to type in “Mobile VR Station.” Then tap on the first app you see in the image below.

Clicking it opens a new page. There, you’ll see some details about the app and a blue “Start” button; hit it to get it downloaded.

Once that’s done, open your browser and visit Cx File Explorer download page. Click the button that says “Download Now” to download the latest version or you can download any older version too.

After that, open the app you downloaded earlier on your Quest—Mobile VR Station. Then, navigate like this: Local Files > All Folders > Android > data > Scoped Storage Actions > Step 1: Request Access.

When you tap the “Request Access” tab, files will open. In the files, you’ll see a breadcrumb at the top displaying your current location. Click on the “quest 2” (or quest 3 if that’s what you’re using).

Then click on “Download” from the list, and you’ll find the APK file of Cx file explorer lying there. Tap on the file, and a small window will show up offering two choices: cancel and install. Tap Install. When done, click Done, not Open! Then, simply, close the Mobile VR Station.

After that, head over to your app library and tap where it says “Installed” (could be “apps” for you). A dropdown will appear with multiple options, but you have to click on “Unknown sources.” Right after that, you’ll find the Cx File Explorer right there. Tap it and you’re good to use it!

How to Download Cx File Explorer on Quest 2 or 3 (With PC)

Downloading Cx File Explorer APK on Quest 2 or 3 with a PC is pretty straightforward. So if you’ve got a PC, go with this method instead of the former. Let’s get started!

First, download Cx File Explorer APK, but don’t install it yet—follow the steps all the way to the end first.

Then, download SideQuest from their official website. Not only does it support Windows, but Linux, Mac, and Android are on the list too. So, download it for whatever device you’re using.

Once done, create an account with SideQuest using your Google account (preferred), Email, GitHub, or Discord.

When done, open the SideQuest app on your PC. There, you’ll see a red ball and “Not Connected” label at the top left of your screen. This indicates that it’s time to connect your Oculus VR headset with your PC—so, do.

Link it to your PC using the USB Type-C cord. Most new laptops come with one or more USB Type-C ports, but PCs might lack them. If you’re in the second case, you can use the universal USB-C to USB-A cable. After putting cables in from both sides, click “Allow” on your Quest device to let SideQuest recognize your headset.

Once connected, you’ll see the red ball turning green and the ‘Not connected’ message changing to your Meta VR headset’s model.

Then, you have a row of icons at the upper right. Click on the icon that, upon hovering, says “Install APK file from folder on computer.” (see the image below)

Now, select the APK file of Cx File Explorer you first downloaded and click “open.” Have coffee while the APK installs on your Meta Quest headset.

Upon finishing, don’t unplug the cable—make sure no tasks are running first.
